Assam Cricket’s First International Tour.

Assam Cricket Team is all set to travel to Sri Lanka for their first ever International tour. Team Assam will be travelling on 22nd of August, 2018 to play against a few teams of Sri Lanka. The 17 days long tour will have 4 One Day Matches and 4 Two day matches. The Captain of the one day team will be Sivsankar Roy and the Two days matches will be lead by Amit Sinha.



Former Assam Cricketer Syed Zakaria Zuffri who is also the present head coach of the team said, “Before the start of the domestic seasons it’s good to play few practice matches. And if the opponent is tough, nothing like it. This tour will help the boys to nurture their skill, mental toughness, and they will get a good exposure internationally.”

Former Captain, Zakaria Zuffri who was also one of the best Wicket keeper batsmen of Assam Cricket team has full confidence that his team is going to perform well in the tour.



The team is also filled up with a few star players like Sivsankar Roy, Amit Sinha, Abu Nechim Ahmed and Riyan Parag. In an interaction the U19 star Riyan said, “It is a great opportunity to showcase our talent and just ahead of Ranji Trophy this tour will be of great help for us. We can definitely defeat them, we have a very good team."  Riyan Parag was also a part of the U19 cricket team who won the U19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand, 2018. He made his first-class debut for Assam in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy on 17 November 2017.

Former Captain Abu Nechim Ahmed is one of the most senior players who will be representing Assam in the tour. Abu Nechim Ahmed has also played IPL for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Abu made his first-class debut on 1 December 2005 against Madhya Pradesh at Indore in the 2005–06 Ranji Trophy. He has represented India at the U-19 level many times, played in the 2006 U-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka. He has also represented ICL India XI & Royal Bengal Tigers in the now defunct ICL. Assam team will bank upon the experienced fast bowler to lead the pace attack. He also mentioned that this is a great opportunity for all the players to showcase their talent and to come in front of the national selectors.

Captain of the One Day Side Sivsankar Roy is also exited as they will be traveling for an international tour for the first time and just ahead of Ranji Trophy this tour will be a major boost for all the players. This will also increase the mental toughness of the players as well, he added.

About Assam Cricket:
Assam played its first home match in 1948, in 2009–10 seasons Assam entered into elite group of the Ranji Trophy. In 2009-10 Ranji Trophy season Assam topped the plate group and subsequently progressed to the Super League. However, in the 2010–11 seasons, it ended at the bottom of its group in the Super League and face relegation to Plate League for the next season. In the 2012-13 edition of Vijay Hazare Trophy Assam played extremely well and finished runners up.

About Barsapara Stadium:
The foundation stone of the Barsapara Cricket Stadium was laid by Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi in June 2004 and he again laid the foundation stone of the club house and stand of the stadium in July 2007 in the presence of then Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Niranjan Shah. In 2010, Assam Cricket Association changed the Barsapara Cricket Stadium’s name in memory of the late Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. On November 4, 2012, the East Zone Senior Women's Interstate One-day Championship match between Assam women's cricket team and Odisha women's cricket team became the first match to be played at the ground. In the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy season, the ground hosted four matches. Assam against Kerala was the first first-class match. India also played an international T20 Match here against Australia in the year 2017.
