O MY JAKHALABANDHA
Oh My Jakhalabandha!
In the Heart
of Kaliabor on the bank of Brahmaputra lies a small place “Jakhalabandha”. This
place is perhaps unknown to majority of the readers out here. This little place
finds its name in the “Limca Books of Records” for its 24 hours road
connectivity and for those hotels which doesn’t have doors and shutter, why
should they? This small place doesn’t sleep even if some of the big cities do.
Also known
as the “Land of hotels” and “musical city” this place provides food and music
at any hours you want. The reason is very simple you cannot go pass this place
keeping your stomach empty and in case you get down to have some food your feet
will surly keep on moving with the sound of various songs played by the hotel
owners and the small vendors even in the stock of midnight.
Jakhalabandha
is surrounded by lots of historical places like Silghat, Hatimura etc and the
famous Kaziranga national park is also not so far from its mainland. People of
various dialects reside here with peace and unity and equal freedom unlike some
of the other places. But are these people aware of the threat which is
approaching on their way. Yes, “The Threat of Survival”
N.H 37 which
is the lifeline of this people is going to change its route as the MAHA SADAK
project will not be undertaken through Jakhalabandha in order to protect the “eco
system” and wildlife of Kaziranga, the pride of Jakhalabandha as the 24x7
connectivity is going to vanish very soon. Not only that the government has
also decided to make it an “Eco Sensitive Zone” extending 10km from the
boundary of the national park and also making this area as a “Tiger Project
Zone”.
So along
with the hotel and transportation business which is about to shut down, the
freedom of survival can also be questioned if it happens. Man-wildlife conflict
is a common practice in this region and with this proposal it is even going to
increase in the coming days.
Now is the
government trying to protect environment and wildlife by sacrificing human??
How will the people face such situation?? Is that a way to kill the dreams and
hopes of the people who are living a simple and easy going life?? These
questions must be answered by the government in next to no time.
