Barsapara capable enough to host Test Cricket: Daren Ganga

The newly constructed Barsapara stadium has witnessed one of the finest match people could ever imagine. Chasing 323 wasn’t easy but the class and elegance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma was enough to reach that target within just 42nd over of the Indian innings. The pitch helped the batsmen and there was nothing much for the bowlers to do and as a result the spectators of Guwahati witnessed three centuries in a match.

Before the start of the match, I had an interaction with former West Indies Cricketer Daren Ganga.  He was a right-handed top order batsman and part-time right-arm offbreak bowler. He played 48 test matches and 35 ODI for West Indies.

Hi Daren, welcome to Guwahati. How are you feeling after visiting here?
Oh, feeling great. It’s a beautiful looking stadium, the stands reminds me of Barcelona stands, beautifully decorated and great weather to play cricket. The pitch looks good as well, not sure if bowlers are going to get something out of it but I feel it’s a great pitch to bat.

With one international T20 and now an ODI, do you think Barsapara Stadium is capable enough to host a Test Cricket now?
Yes, such a lovely ground and the facilities here are also good enough to host test matches. May be a little early start will be required as it get dark early during winters, but yes I can see a international test cricket coming soon here.

Some unfamiliar faces in the Windies camp, with just 13 ODI’s to go before World Cup I would like to know how West Indies is looking forward to the World Cup in England ?
The preparation has been good so far, it’s also important to find out the best playing 11 for the world cup, so few of the star players are rested and the management is trying to introduce few new faces to strengthen the bench strength.

West Indies had great players in the past, how do you compare the present and the past Windies team?
No comparison at all, if you look at players like Lara, Hooper, Holding, Sir Garfield Sobers, Clive Lloyd, Malcolm Marshall their contribution for the development of the team has been superb. We are still a better limited over side but players needs to play more and more matches to gain experience. If you include DJ Bravo, Gayle, Sammy, Carlos Brathwaite, Evin Lewis into the side it will look stronger again. So, its upto the team combination that will be playing in the World Cup next year.

Your thoughts on Indian Cricket? Can they bring back the World Cup again?

Indian cricket is in great hands now, with Virat leading the side and MS Dhoni mentoring the team with his experience, what else does a team require. They are one of the favorites for the World Cup, at least you cannot imaging top four team without India in a world cup.
